Americas-North America-United States-Los Angeles International Airport Tom Bradley Terminal Wayfinding System Design

1. Visual Identification

The wayfinding system of Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport is highly visually identifiable. Prominent letter and number signs, such as the large "B" and "4", feature a simple and modern font design, which can be clearly seen from a distance. At the same time, these signs are set off by background panels of different colors, such as blue, purple, and orange, enhancing the visual contrast and enabling travelers to quickly identify and locate.

2. Night Lighting Effect

The lighting design of the wayfinding system at night is outstanding. The signage uses self - illuminating or back - lighting designs, which stand out in the dark. For example, the number "4" and the letter "B" are illuminated by lights at night, not only ensuring that travelers can clearly recognize them in low - light environments but also adding a unique nighttime landscape effect to the terminal and enhancing the overall atmosphere.

3. Information Hierarchy and Layout

The wayfinding system has a clear information hierarchy and a reasonable layout. Inside the terminal, the hanging signs are categorized by airline, such as "Fiji Airways", "Aeroflot", "Emirates", etc., with the corresponding area letter "B" clearly marked on the signs, allowing travelers to quickly find the check - in area for their flights. At the same time, the number signs (such as "1" and "4") above the external roads help vehicles and pedestrians quickly locate different areas of the terminal, with efficient and clear guidance.

4. Integration with Architectural Style

The wayfinding system perfectly integrates with the modern architectural style of Tom Bradley International Terminal. The materials and shapes of the signage echo the lines and structure of the building. The uniquely shaped white light poles, together with the signage, create a simple and grand sense of space. The use of color also coordinates with the overall color scheme of the building, highlighting the wayfinding function without compromising the overall aesthetic of the building.

5. Combination of Dynamic and Static Elements

The wayfinding system includes both static signs and dynamic elements. For example, the electronic display signage hanging inside can update dynamic content such as flight information in real - time. These cooperate with fixed letter and number signs to provide travelers with  comprehensive and timely information services, meeting the needs of travelers in the airport environment for quick access to and updates of information.
